Abba has lost the most streamed Eurovision song of all time to Dutch singer Duncan Laurence. RuPaul’s Drag Race star Michelle Visage announced during Radio 2’s Eurovision Song Contest: The most streamed official of all time as classic Swedish pop group Waterloo, who won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1974, came in second place.

Laurence’s ballad Arcade came out on top as the most streamed Eurovision track after winning the competition in 2019, securing a first Eurovision title since 1975 for the Netherlands. The list precedes the 66th edition of the competition, with two semi-finals on May 10 and 12, followed by the grand final in Turin, Italy, on May 14.

Dadi Freyr’s Think About Things, which was to be Iceland’s entry for the 2020 competition before the event was canceled due to the pandemic, took third place on the list. It had been considered one of the favorites to win before the cancellation, but then became a viral hit via TikTok.

The group represented Iceland the following year with the song 10 Years, finishing in fourth place. The winners of the 2021 competition – Italian rock band Maneskin – came fifth for their hit Zitti E Buoni.

UK entries came further down the list, with Bucks Fizz’s 1981 Eurovision-winning song Making Your Mind Up coming in at number eight. Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit by Gina G, the 1996 UK entry, placed at number 15, with last year’s entry by James Newman’s Embers at 17 overall.

Last year, the UK suffered a crushing defeat as Newman was the only one to score zero points from both the jury and the public vote, going bottom of the standings.

TikTok star Sam Ryder will represent the UK in this year’s competition, where he will perform the track Space Man. Ryder rose to prominence covering songs on TikTok during lockdown and has so far racked up 12 million subscribers, making him the most-followed British music artist on the platform, according to the BBC.

A new documentary which will debut on the BBC’s YouTube channel on May 10, titled Sam Ryder: From TikTok to Eurovision, will go behind the scenes after his trip to Eurovision.

Presenter AJ Odudu has also been announced as UK spokesperson for the event which will see her deliver the country’s results to the rest of the world from Salford for the first time. Graham Norton will be back to commentate on BBC One during the grand finale.

BBC entertainment director Kate Phillips said: “The BBC continues to be the UK’s home for Eurovision, on TV, radio and online, and this year it should be bigger and better than ever. We are delighted to be hosting the semi-finals again on BBC Three, ahead of the grand final itself live on BBC One and Radio 2, where we will announce the UK National Jury points live from Salford for the first time ever. .

“In addition to all of this, BBC Four and BBC Two will air classic Eurovision specials over the years, while Radio 2 continues to be the home of Eurovision on the air.”

The Radio 2 list has been compiled by the Official Charts Company using UK-only official audio and video streaming data from platforms.

Radio 2’s Eurovision: The Official All-Time Most-Streamed will be available on BBC Sounds from Saturday 30 April and will also air on Eurovision Super Saturday on Radio 2 on 14 May.
