An Amazing Journey of K-Pop Boy Group NCT: Learn Their Success Story

NCT has become one of the well-known boy groups in K-pop. But the group can get quite confusing with its multiple units, members, and even concepts.
NCT was formed under the SM Entertainment label. The name of the group means Neo Culture Technology, and the main idea is that it is a group with an infinite number of members who are mixed in different subunits.
As of 2022, NCT has 23 members; Taeil, Johnny, Taeyong, Yuta, Kun, Doyung, Ten, Jaehyun, Winwin, Jungwoo, Lucas, Mark, Xiao Jun, Hendery, Renjun, Jeno, Haechan, Jaemin, Yang Yang, Shotaro, Sungchan, Chenle, and Jisung. The group is composed of 5 subunits; NCT U, NCT 127, NCT Dream, NCT 2018 and WayV.
1) NCT U:
This group is rotating and the members change according to the concept. They debuted in April 2016 with The 7th Sense and Without You. Programming during this period included; Taeil, Jaehyun, Taeyong, Mark, Ten, and Doyoung.
2) NCT 127:
The name of this unit represents the longitudinal coordinates of the city, the soul and the representative of the city. The lineup includes 10 members; Johnny, Taeyong, Jaehyun, Doyoung, Taeil, Yuta, Winwin, Mark, Jungwoo, and Haechan. They debuted in 2016 as just 7 members with Fire Truck. This unit is one of the others that has traveled the most.
3) NCT Dream:
This unit is based on age. This group includes all members under the age of 20. Once they reach the age, they move into another NCT unit. The unit originally included; Mark, Haechan, Renjun, Jeno, Jaemin, Chenle, and Jisung.
4) NCT 2018:
This unit was the name given to NCT as it existed in 2018. The group had 18 members and they released their debut album NCT 2018 Empathy. The album included songs from each unit as well as the band’s song, “Black on Black”.
5) WayV:
WayV is the Chinese unit of NCT. The group focuses on broadcasting music in Mandarin. Members include; Lucas, Winwin, Kun, Ten, Hendery, Xiao Jun and Yang Yang. The group debuted on January 17, 2019, under SM Entertainment’s Chinese exclusive Level V.
