Remi Wolf, on the verge of releasing his debut album “Juno”, spoke about his mental health issues and how the music industry could better help artists with their mental health issues.

Talk to NME for The Big Read, Wolf spoke candidly about her growing fame, which she described as a “strange and unnatural experience.”

“I take it all and it’s a very strange and unnatural experience – I need support,” she said. “There is certainly more care given, but there is still a lot of work to be done. “

“Artists signed on labels should have the resources to find therapists [and] have health insurance, or at least find a liaison to help them with everything. A lot of the time your label is like, “Here’s your lead – go ahead and do whatever” which, like… great, but we need a lot more support. “

Wolf also spoke about older artists who audiences later learned suffered from various mental health issues like drug addiction, saying, “You see what happens to artists in the ’90s: they suffer from depression, they have an addiction and they die. “

“Even today, it still happens with younger people, and there is a lot that is being romanticized. This is what keeps it stagnant most of the time, as addiction to art has been rampant for hundreds of years. There is a part of everyone who romances this culture and it is really unhealthy.

‘Juno,’ released October 15, deals in part with Wolf’s own struggles with addiction, written after she signed up for rehab last June after realizing she had a drinking problem.

“The songs I wrote during the pandemic are definitely a little more manic,” said NME 100 member Wolf.

“My career was taking off, I had recently become sober, just had a dog and moved three times during the pandemic … It was a lot.”

Wolf’s statements come just months after a study by the charity Help Musicians found that 87% of musicians’ mental health had taken ‘unprecedented’ devastation throughout the COVID-19 pandemic.

‘Juno’ will be Wolf’s first release since his 2020 EP ‘I’m Allergic To Dogs!’, Which NME declared as one of the best releases of the year. We’ve heard five songs from the album so far: “Liquor Store,” “Grumpy Old Man,” “Quiet On Set,” “Guerrilla” and “Sexy Villain”.
