Grammy Award-winning Ashanti has announced some important music news, sharing that she now owns all of her masters and is now preparing to independently re-record her first studio LP of 2002. “I signed up for the first time at a record label at the age of 14, “she said during an appearance on Tamron room Spectacle. “Then see how things have changed so far. It’s very important to have a conceptual understanding of what to sign.”

“The fact that we can re-record the album and put it all together is a great blessing,” she added. “I’m grateful. We’re still here, going through the pandemic and these blessings. The fact that this continues makes me very humble.” The news comes right after his appearance at the Battle of Verzuz between Ja Rule and Fat Joe. Ashanti has pieces popular with both artists. She has collaborated with Ja Rule on a number of hits, including “Mesmerize” and “Always on Time”. She also worked with Fat Joe on her hit “What’s Luv?” She also made headlines the next morning after many people speculated there were sparks in her onstage hug with ex-Nelly.

“I really didn’t expect it, I didn’t know he would be there, honestly,” she said of her reunion with Nelly. “So when I saw him sort of walk across the stage, I was like, ‘Oh…’ and it was so weird because we haven’t seen or spoken for over six years, so it was. the first time in six years, so it was a weird feeling… I always, like when we broke up for the first time, I was like, “Oh my God, when I see it.” You know, I been there, and then it was like, ‘Oh, I’m fine.’ See what I mean? So it’s been so long, I didn’t know how to feel or what I was going to feel when I really saw it. So that’s the way it was.

Ashanti recalled on the show that she first built her relationship with music as a young girl growing up in Long Island, New York. “I used to be down in my section because I wanted to feel like I had my own apartment, muted Cartoon Network and just wrote.” She says the practice “allowed me to enter my zone.”

The singer’s self-titled debut album, which featured popular hits “Foolish,” “Happy” and “Baby,” premiered on the Billboard 200 and on the R & B / Hip-Hop Top Albums chart at no. 1. He sold 503,000 units in his first week – a record number for a female artist’s first project at that time.
