SYDNEY, NS — SYDNEY, N.S. – Singer-songwriter Keith Mullins and Veterans for Healing created an album at a veterans retirement camp last year.

To mark D-Day, June 6, 1944, Mullins alongside six veterans wrote six songs over three days, based on stories from each veteran’s life, before taking the songs home and recording them. , Veterans for Healing said in a press release.

While Mullins played most of the instruments, the album also features Morgan Toney, Isabella Samson and Nathan Wiley from Prince Edward Island.

“This song camp was very emotional, there were a lot of laughs and tears during this camp and I will look back on this project as one of my best works in music,” Mullins said.

Half of the album’s sales will go to Veterans for Healing to help veterans on their healing journey.

Veterans For Healing’s programming includes mental wellness projects such as yoga, hiking, and songwriting.

The organization also offers access to medical experts, provides veterans affairs liaisons, and focuses on veteran rehabilitation.

The album will be performed at the Inverness Arts Center with Cape Breton’s Barn Bhreagh in the coming weeks, with other special guests to be announced.
