If you asked her to remember a time when music was not present in her life, Natasha would have a hard time giving you an answer. As an active member of her county and school music scene as a child, some of her earliest memories come from choirs and performance groups she was a part of. At the age of 14 she auditioned for the prestigious Royal Northern College of Music where she studied for four years. During her time there, she was not only able to develop her technique and understanding of classical and operatic music, but she also expanded her repertoire in exploring different genres.
Alongside her music, Natasha has also pursued a side career in beauty pageants and her endeavors saw her crowned Miss England in 2015. She has performed at venues across the UK and also in China – where she appeared at the Beauty Crown Theater in China as the top five finalists in a global streaming beauty pageant.
During this time, Natasha also returned to the Royal National College of Music to study the Undergraduate Diploma in Popular Music focusing on songwriting and contemporary styles – she eventually graduated with honours. But that’s not all, Natasha had also found time to start working on her debut album which was inspired by her favorite classical musicians. The end result was the ‘Whispers’ album, and it was Natasha’s interpretation of classical music with her own lyrics. This was created with input from Grammy Award winner Jose Feliciano and Clannad singer Moya Brennan. This unique and ethereal take on existing tracks caught the ears of some music industry figures, resulting in nationwide tours with The Overtones and later Russell Watson and Aled Jones.
For her second outing, Natasha dived even deeper by fully immersing herself in the writing and recording elements of the album – she composed and arranged all but one of the tracks. Described as lush, contemporary, and also crossover folk music, the album titled Invincible was released in June 2022, and it’s an undeniably personal and intimate release. For the first time, Natasha is faced with some uncomfortable episodes in her life, including the mixed blessings of her time in the world of beauty pageants.
“I wanted to tell my story with this new album and each of the songs was inspired by moments in my life. In today’s world, everyone creates a “perfect” version of themselves on the networks social and the real person is “invisible” I feel like no one can really be happy pretending to be someone else, afraid of not being loved and accepted for who they are.
Natasha Hemmings will perform as part of the Ronan Keating – All The Hits UK Tour at Sheffield Town Hall on Tuesday 28th June 2022. Her latest release, the EP Invincible, is out now and available to buy digitally and on all streaming platforms. And his new single, ‘Fight For You’, is out now!
