If you watch Korn’s classic video for “Got the Life” very closely, you can see for a second of one of rap’s greatest talents before he was famous. A young Marshall Mathers was an extra on the set of “Got the Life” and he may have shown up looking for his big luck.

Korn released “Got the Life” with huge success in November 1998. Although the song only reached No. 15 on the US Mainstream Rock charts, the video has become an MTV staple. Total live requests and was the first music video to be “retired” in the series’ history. At this point, however, Korn follow the guide the album had already reached No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Eminem’s cameo is only momentary, but he managed to impress guitarist Munky even though he was drunk while filming the video.

“There were extras on the set of our ‘Got the Life’ video. A kid came up to me and gave me his demo, ”Munky recalls. “I was really drunk and I was like [out of it]. He’s like, ‘Hey look, I’m a rapper.’ I’m like ‘I’m just a guitarist.’ It turned out that this kid who was on our video was Eminem. He was an extra in this video. I vaguely remember what happened.

Korn guitarist Head continued jokingly, “Thanks a lot, man. It could have been billionaires. We could have signed it before Dre.

Eminem Cameos in Korn’s “Got the Life” Video

In addition to Eminem, artists like Fred Durst, Wes Borland and Sam Rivers of Limp Bizkit, Jay Gordon of Orgy and rapper WC are in the video, as are UFC veteran Tito Ortiz.

A few years later, Korn Untouchables would attempt in vain to topple Eminem from No. 1 on the Billboard 200. In its fourth week of release, The Eminem show still managed to sell more than 100,000 copies more than what Untouchables was able to move in his first week. No shame on Korn, however, as Eminem eventually became the top-selling musical artist of the 2000s in the United States.

See if you can catch Slim Shady at the very end of “Got the Life” below. (He’s somewhat enveloped by the slates at the end of the video.)
