With another Grammy ceremony on January 31, a few records are about to be broken. Here are four artists looking to make a splash and cement themselves even more in Grammy history than they already are.

SEEGrammy 2022 predictions: R&B album races include tough match between HER, Jon Batiste and Jazmine Sullivan

Tony bennett

This pop standards legend has a few records he could break due to his multiple nominations for his Lady Gaga collaboration album, “Love For Sale”. If Bennett wins a category in January, he will become the second oldest person to win a Grammy, at 95 years old and 181 days old. The current record is held by Pinetop Perkins, who won almost 98 years. Also, if Bennett wins one (or both) of his field nominations (Album of the Year for “Love for Sale”, Record of the Year for “I Get a Kick Out of You”), he will be the oldest person of all time. to win a general domain prize. He is already the oldest person to have been nominated in these categories.

But the records would not stop there for “Love For Sale”. If the album wins, it will be the first cover album to win the category since 2009 winner “Raising Sand”, which was also coincidentally a collaboration project between Alison krauss and Robert Plant. It will also be the first mainstream pop album to win since Bennett’s “MTV Unplugged” in 1995. Additionally, Bennett would become the seventh artist to twice win the Album of the Year as a credited lead performer, joining Frank sinatra, Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, Taylor Swift, Adele, and U2.

Jon batiste

With 11 nominations to his name this year, one has to wonder how many Grammy Awards Jon batiste will actually pick up. The record for most wins in one night is eight, shared by Michael jackson (1984) and Santana (2000). This means that even if Batiste loses his two general field categories (Album of the Year for “We Are”, Record of the Year for “Freedom”), he could still get nine wins. That said, Batiste faces stiff competition from HER, Jazmine Sullivan, and Chick Korea in several categories, we will therefore see how much love he will receive in the second ballot.

Billie Eilish

Billie Eilish is no stranger to breaking records. Two years ago, she became the second person and the first female artist to win all four general domain categories in the same year. And at 18, she was the youngest artist to win album of the year. A year later, she had the rare honor of winning the record of the year twice in a row, something only U2 and Roberta flack did. Now Eilish could easily break the record this year with her acclaimed single “Happier Than Ever”. Not only would she become the first person to win the year’s record three times in a row, but she would also be the first female artist and the second overall artist to win the category three times. And since the only other artist to triple wins, Paul Simon, won twice in duet with Garfunkel Art, Eilish would become the first artist to win the award three times alone.

Eilish also has a few other records on the horizon, this time with her album “Happier Than Ever”. If she wins Album of the Year, she will become the third female artist to win the category more than once, after Taylor Swift (“Fearless”, “1989”, “Folklore”) and Adele (“21”, “25”). She is also said to be the fastest of the three to win the award twice, with her debut album winning the award just two years ago. Eilish’s album is also nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album, where she could become the third artist to win twice, after Kelly clarkson and Adele, and the fastest to do it too.

Finneas

Eilish’s brother and main collaborator, Finneas, is in the running for a prize all its own this year: Best New Artist. If he won he would join his sister, Christophe cross, and Adele as the only people to have won all four general categories in their careers. Finneas had previously won the album of the year award for “When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?” Eilish, Album of the Year for “Bad Guy” and “Everything I Wanted” and Song of the Year for “Bad Guy”. Finneas would also be the first artist to win the Best New Artist award. last out of general domain prices, instead of the first (Adele) or in the same year (Eilish, Cross).
