Hip-Hop Artist Brings New Backyard Music Festival to Nanaimo – Nanaimo News Bulletin

A hip-hop artist from Nanaimo hosted his first music festival.

On August 14, Darcy McBride, aka Details, presents Backyard Boogie 2021 at a property on Maxey Road in Nanaimo. This is McBride’s first show that he is hosting through his new promotional company Hoodstock Entertainment.

McBride described Backyard Boogie in hockey terms, with three distinct periods separated by two intermissions.

“The comedy of the first period, the second period is acoustic, the singers R&B, then the third period will be a pop, dance, rap type set,” he explained. “So it’s exciting to put it on and know that even though I have the opportunity to put my stick on the ice, I’m not the only player playing. You literally have a complete list.

McBride is also one of the featured artists. After having moved away from music for nine years, he recently returned to writing and recording. He said he took music a bit seriously when he was younger, but now that he’s older he feels he has something to say.

“The money, the heartache, the emotion, overcoming a drug addiction – honestly I was hit by a car a decade and a half ago and spent almost a decade taking the pain relievers that they told me they would help me – so there’s a lot of life to put out, ”he said.

In early 2020, McBride released the album Laundry, which he said was a journal and a metaphor for his sanity at the time. Unfortunately, after the record was released, COVID-19 restrictions came in and sidelined it.

In the meantime, he has released a new album, created a clothing brand and founded Hoodstock, which he hopes to use to raise other musicians on the island.

“If being able to call these people and organize and promote my own shows puts me on a faster path and can potentially bring people I care about and who have talent with me, let’s go,” said he declared.

Even though Backyard Boogie is his first company in promoting concerts, he was excited and encouraged by the support. And with the rapid sale of tickets, he said the response had been “ridiculous in a good way.”

“If this is the reaction to a little show on private property, just let me rent a venue,” he said.

WHAT’S NEW… Backyard Boogie 2021 takes place August 14 from noon to 11:45 p.m. $ 45 for floor seats, $ 35 for general admission. For tickets and more information, email backyardboogie21@gmail.com.
