Houston may not always get the credit it deserves in the music industry, but it is in Bayou City that many trends are emerging. And in most cases, the city is a breath of fresh air, serving as an influence on a somewhat mundane musical landscape. From Don Toliver’s homage to his hometown on The life of a donation to Thomas Csorba to reconnect with his peasant roots From the Jordan and Robert Glasper channeling his classical gospel roots on “Shine”, H-Town’s influence is heard in many genres.

Scroll forward for new music from Houston artists this week.

Robert Glasper, with D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché “Shine”

The pianist and producer has released a new single from his next project, Black radio 3. Glasper brought in D Smoke and Tiffany Gouché for the song, making it a relaxing and refreshing track.

Hundros, Bassrob & Siddiq, Well connected

Three representatives from Houston join forces for a collaborative project, Well connected. The rap EP features mellow, jazzy influences, delivering a blaxploitation-esque feel.

Thomas Csorba, From the Jordan

American artist Thomas Csorba gives us a glimpse of what love looks like through his eyes on his five-track EP, From the Jordan. It pays homage to his wife and deceased grandfather to show listeners how important family is.

Brittney Balma, For me

The Houston singer’s new album is a compilation of songs that bring healing, love and inspiration. For me describes the different phases of Brittney Balma’s life that have made her who she is, from self-esteem to dealing with growing pains as a young woman.

Rukus, “Black Jesus”

Rukus channels his inner consciousness on his single “Black Jesus” ahead of the release of his next EP, Black. In “Black Jesus”, Rukus preaches the beauty of black life.

Don Toliver, The life of a Don

The subsidiary of Cactus Jack released its second effort, The life of a doingn and the new project does not disappoint. With features from Travis Scott, Kali Uchis and Baby Keem, the album channels nostalgia for the early days of Houston with tracks like “Swangin ‘On Westheimer” and “Get Throwed”.
