A new musical featuring American Idol’s Pia Toscano, TikTok’s Chris Olson and the Cambodian Royal Family’s Prince Khemuni Norodom is coming to Broadway on demand, hoping for a Broadway arc. Appointed 1660 Vinethe musical follows a group of influencers living in an apartment building as they pursue their dreams of social media stardom.
The musical, written by Jackson Price and 20 other anonymous songwriters, will be directed by Patricia McGregor, choreographed by Paula Abdul, associate choreographer Kausha Campbell and musically supervised by David Lawrence and Faye Greenberg. The film is produced by Jonathan Prince and WitzEnd Productions, and is targeting a Broadway debut in 2024.
“1660 Vine is both overwhelmingly joyful and also asks deep questions about what it means to ‘be real’ in the age of social media,” says McGregor. “Selected from over 5,000 auditions, our dynamite cast brings the ups and downs of your dreams to life, in a story influenced by works such as Lease and Hamilton. The public will love what we have put together.
Principal photography will begin in June in Los Angeles, with a November release date. The film will be released first on StreamingMusicals.com and BroadwayOnDemand.com before releasing on a major streaming platform. The work will also be available under license for performance in 2023.
