Philly Music Fest returns to the live, in-person festival format this year.
Celebrating its fifth year, Philly Music Fest is an annual music festival known for exclusively reserving acts based in Philly or acts with close ties to the city.
Philly Music Fest was founded by Jenn and Greg Seltzer in 2017. The festival’s mission is “to host a music festival celebrating and featuring musicians from Philadelphia”.
As a non-profit organization, Philly Music Fest donates its profits to local music education for children, once performers are fairly paid.
The goal is to reinvest in the music community of Philly and fight budget cuts that reduce or eliminate music education programs in schools.
This year, the festival extends to five nights, offering six shows at five independent venues. The festival will start on Wednesday October 6 and will run until Sunday October 10.
This year’s festival will feature a lineup of 19 artists and / or solos from Philadelphia.
Wednesday’s show at World Cafe Live will feature the bands Spirit of the Beehive, Irreversible Entanglements and Moor Jewelry.
Moor Mother, member of Moor Jewelry, and freelance songwriter Alex G, will each perform solo sets.
Thursday’s show at Johnny Brenda’s will feature Hop Along and Lunch, and solo artist AnnonXL.
Friday will host an early and late show. Bands Stella Ruze, Kelsey Cork and The Swigs will perform the first show at MilkBoy with solo artist Son Little.
Solos Ivy Sole, Moses Mosima and Barney Cortez will perform the final show at REC Philly.
Like Friday, Saturday will be divided by two shows both performed at Ardmore Music Hall. The Menzingers, Control Top and Highnoon are expected to perform.
The final show of the Philly Music Fest will feature The Menzingers, Queen of Jeans and the West Philadelphia Orchestra.
In 2020, the Philly Music Fest chose to host just two evenings of shows, both broadcast live and performed in front of an audience of zero.
Philly Music Fest will go the extra mile to protect attendees this year. Proof of vaccination is required, but places are left to decide on mask warrants.
In the scenario of mask requirements at venues, the Philly Music Fest will provide additional security personnel to enforce the requirements.
