On June 10, a Brooklyn-based collective )) ASCEND (( released their first album, WAVES OF POSSIBILITY. The five-track album layers unique instrumentation and spoken word to provide listeners with a spiritual and connected experience.

The artists behind the album, Boshko Boskovic, Gabriel Wade and Rebecca Nison, said practicing Reiki was an integral part of every recording session. Reiki is a form of Japanese energy healing. RISE is an acronym for Reiki-Infused Sound Experiences and every track on this freshman album amplifies that idea.

The process of creating this album was healing in its own right while allowing us to amplify our own self-expression. We met weekly at Gabriel’s music studio in Park Slope, where we realized the recording process meant we had to be vulnerable when using our voices.

Produced by muse musicthe sound experience of WAVES OF POSSIBILITY is multi-layered and dimensional. With ambient sound, vocals and soft-spoken messages, listeners can sit back and focus on the album’s soothing atmosphere. The tracks convey a range of emotions, with the sounds developing and changing throughout each track.

The tracks include complex sounds, leaving any listener wondering what they might hear next. There are traditional instruments intertwined throughout the album, like electric guitar and bass riffs, and drum beats. However, the use of unique sounds such as the chirping of birds or the chime of bells in the layered buzzing vibrations really boosts the listening experience.

With hypnotic harmonics and sparse lyrics, the tracks envelop any listener in an almost otherworldly and spiritual space. The sound combinations are particularly creative and convincing.

Each of the 5 titles is also accompanied by a video that highlights the work of 5 visual artists. The first of the videos, for the 12-minute track “Message for the Moon,” features art by Skylar Smith. The visuals complete the audio foundations of the debut album, allowing listeners to enjoy a multi-sensory experience.
