Summersalt on tour in Europe to share the music and culture of Meghalaya, North East India

SHILLONG, November 1: The town’s folk fusion troupe Summersalt is expected to tour three European countries, including Germany, Denmark and Switzerland, to share the cultural intricacies of Meghalaya and northeastern Switzerland. ‘India with the world through music.
The folk-fusion troupe will arrive in Germany on the 4the November 2021 and will be the main Indian attendees at India Week Hamburg 2021, according to a press release.
The group’s tour schedule will cover 7 locations located in the 3 countries and will aim to interface with the European crowd, including the Indian diaspora settled in Europe. The tour is organized by a Copenhagen-based Zamans East India Travel Odyssey (ZEITO) in conjunction with the Indian Consul General’s Office in Hamburg and Consul General Mr. John Ruolngul.
Summer salt will also perform at the following venues in Germany and Denmark, while the venue in Switzerland has yet to be finalized.

As part of the Hamburg Indian Week 2021 (November 8-14, 2021), the Consulate General of India will hold a special North East India promotion on Thursday November 11, 2021, where Summersalt will perform songs in Khasi , Ri-Bhoi Umden Khasi dialect, Hindi, Assamese and German.
This tour was co-sponsored by the Government of Meghalaya Company, Meghalayan Age Limited, the Ministry of Arts and Culture of the Government of Meghalaya with the support of the Indian Council for Cultural Relations of the Government of India.

Developed in Shillong, Summersalt is essentially a folk fusion group whose energy draws on indigenous music, sitting restless on the knees of the Khasi Hills in Meghalaya State, northeast India. Summersalt is known to have crossed genres. The songs (both in Khasi, English and other languages) contain wit and humor that are integral to indigenous communities. The artistic work of the group is solution-oriented and the instruments are a mixture of standards and lesser-known instruments of the indigenous group, which they represent – “the Khasi community†of the state of Meghalaya in the north. east of India.

The group was part of a Bollywood collaboration in collaboration with the best in the industry namely Javed Akhtar, Usha Uthup, Farhan Akhtar, Shankar Mahadevan, Loy Mendonsa Ehsaan Noorani in the production of the musical drama Rock On 2 released worldwide in November 2016.
